 Seconds before the peace treaty is signed,

 Like swimmers drowned in sight of the indifferent bank?

 Or for those who commit suicide, unaware

 Of the forthcoming letter of release

 Of the redundant pardon?

 What is the meaning of Love for those for whom

 The marketable graces of beauty have been withheld

 Since the day they were born?

 What is the meaning of Reason for those

 Whose minds tarry not in high dilemmas or find pleasure

 Leisurely roaming through the sumptuous labyrinths of knowledge

 But ram like a piece of dead wood against the almighty citadel

 Of Want?

 What is the meaning of God for those who perish

 At the hands of those who invoke Him

 Yet calling Him by another name?

 What is the meaning of Light for those who dwell

 In the House of Darkness, trusting the staggering weight

 Of their bewilderment to the shaky foundation of

 White sticks and faithful dogs?

 What is the meaning of Laughter for those who endure in silence

 That of their torturers?

 What is the meaning of Life for those who undergo it like

 A slow operation carried out by malignant, callous

 Gods upon the delicate tissue of their dreams

 Only to see these born dead inside a placenta where the evil of

 this World bursts forth to drench and drown their last remaining hope?

 What is the meaning of Justice for those who seek it in vain

 Or having found it die at its hand?

 Yes, and what is the meaning of Poetry for those whose eyes

 Can read not these lines, but only the drudgery of their lives

 Inscribed on their cheeks by tears falling down in patterns

 Of doleful syntax?

 Zer esan nahi du Denborak / bake-ituna sinatu baino segundu batzuk lehenxeago

 erortzen direnentzat, / erribera ezaxolen bistan itotako igerilarien antzera? /

 Edo suizidatzen direnentzat, jakin gabe / askatasuna iragartzen dien mezua, /
